With close to a 100 cars where drivers were accompanied with a visually impaired navigator and their family and friends as co-passengers streaked the city of Chennai in a humbling display or support and solidarity. This 34th edition flagged off from Savera Hotel in Chennai, was a Sunday well invested for many.
The rally format is as follows:
- The rally is flagged off from Savera Hotel and returns to the same venue.
- Every participating car has a visually impaired navigator who has a Braille Route Map that they read and guide the drivers. The Map is in a Time, Speed and Distance format where specifics like – speed to be maintained, clues to be solved and pit-stops to record are done within a stipulated time window.
- The route criss-crosses Chennai in a typical 120 minute drive, and is an experience in role reversal where the visually-challenged lead the visually-abled.
Speaking on their support to the rally and the NAB, Gangapriya Chakraverti, India Site Head and Managing Director, Ford Motor Company said: “The opportunity to support the cause of visual impairment via a rally format is something that truly inspired us. September is Ford’s “Global Caring Month” and we are privileged to enable this rally for the first time by creating a parallel ecosystem of people within our community who “care” for such causes.”
Ms Dipti Bhatia CEO of the National Association for the Blind adds to this:
“Over the recent past the increase in corporate support has been a shot-in-the
