Honourable Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu,Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurates launch edition, reaffirming Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure growth plans
Chennai, 28-August-2025: The debut edition of CONEX South 2025 commenced on August 28 at the Chennai Trade Centre, marking a significant juncture for Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure sector. Government officials, contractors, manufacturers, and technology providers converged in a resounding show of collaboration as the Honourable Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin, formally inaugurated the event, with Thiru E.V. Velu, Honourable Minister for Public Works (Buildings, Highways & Minor Ports), in attendance.
In his address to the business audience present, Honourable Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu, Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin stated, “I am privileged to inaugurate this esteemed event. Our government has invested strategically in Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure, with landmark projects like the ₹37 crore glass bridge at Kanyakumari—delivered under challenging conditions—and the ₹640 crore Teynampet–Saidapet flyover, a world-first engineering feat built above an existing metro tunnel. These investments, along with other key infrastructure developments reflect our commitment to making Tamil Nadu India’s top state for infrastructure and ease of doing business. It is the skill and dedication of our contractors that turn these visions into reality, and we will continue to work through Thiru E.V. Velu, Honourable Minister for Public Works (Buildings, Highways & Minor Ports) to bring even greater opportunities and schemes to support your vital role in our state’s growth.”
Thiru E.V. Velu, Honourable Minister for Public Works (Buildings, Highways & Minor Ports) emphasised, “With more than 68,000 km of roads across the state, over 1,197 bridges, and major development projects carried out under the vision of our Hon’ble Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu today is a model for growth and good governance. Our people’s trust and active participation remain our greatest strength, and together we will continue to build a prosperous, modern, and united Tamil Nadu.”
Organised by Messe Muenchen India in partnership with the Tamil Nadu Highways Contractors Federation and supported by Guidance Tamil Nadu, the fair reflects regional contracting realities: rapid evaluation needs, hands-on demonstrations, and technologies tailored for local terrain and climate.
Opening Day Experiences
• Live demonstrations of heavy and specialised equipment drew an enthusiastic response, providing contractors with tangible insight into machine capabilities.
• Curated buyer-seller meetings facilitated meaningful conversations among contractors, EPCs, developers, and suppliers.
• Delegations from over 30 districts underscored broad district-level participation and interest.
Running until August 30, CONEX South brings together more than 200 leading brands across 10,000 square metres. Major OEMs—including JCB India, Action Construction Equipment, Tata Hitachi, HD Hyundai, Bull Machines, Propel Industries, Puzzolana, Ammann, and others—are showcasing a comprehensive range of machinery and systems for construction, roadbuilding, mining, and transportation.
Meeting Challenges with Innovation
With Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure project pipeline estimated at ₹1 lakh crore and above, contractors face pressure from labour scarcity, delivery deadlines, and compliance requirements. Exhibitors are responding by presenting mechanised, energy-efficient equipment and new materials—solutions that directly impact time, productivity, and cost efficiency.
M. Thirusangu, President, TNHCF, summed up the mood: “Tamil Nadu’s growth trajectory is accelerating, and the Deputy Chief Minister’s presence affirms our shared commitment to timely, safe, and sustainable execution.” Bhupinder Singh, President IMEA, Messe München and CEO, Messe Muenchen India, added, “The opening day demonstrated the platform in action, bringing together live working zones and dynamic government–industry exchanges that are already turning into business opportunities.”
